Abstract

This paper analyzes the role of cultural centers in promoting culture, art, and knowledge in Brazil. From a theoretical approach, it investigates the historical evolution of these spaces, from their modern origin in France to their consolidation in the Brazilian context, highlighting their function as instruments for democratizing access to and production of art. The contributions of cultural centers to social inclusion and the strengthening of collective identity are discussed, as well as the challenges faced regarding accessibility, public policies, and the architecture of these facilities. The research shows that, beyond physical structures, cultural centers must function as living spaces for creation, critical reflection, and social belonging. The need for architectural proposals that engage with regional specificities is emphasized, ensuring functionality, hospitality, and the protagonism of the communities involved. It is concluded that the joint action between public authorities, civil society, and architecture professionals is fundamental for the effective consolidation of these spaces as agents of sociocultural transformation.
